Interfaith work underway in Barnet
In 2008-09 BCVYS developed a locality based outreach intervention to resolve anti-social behaviour in a ‘hot spot’ identified by the safer neighbourhood team and others. By using their existing links with statutory, community and faith groups they were able to help the young people and the community to develop activities, relationships and set up a community association and a youth forum very quickly and cost effectively. This model has been rolled out to one new area in 2010, with a further one planned for 2011.
In 2009 Rabbi Natan Levy organised an Ecogarden project involving Jewish and Muslim young people.
SACRE ran a pilot Barnet Youth Faith Conference, on 3rd November 2009, for sixth formers studying RE or Philosophy. This explored what it means to have faith, and how this can be expressed to others. It also offered the opportunity to explore the faith of others, and gain a greater understanding. The success of this event has resulted in a repeat event in 2010.
